125 years of motorcycle history
The Early Years
1900–1930
The history of the motorcycle begins around 1900, when the first models were bicycles with a small engine mounted on the frame.
They quickly became popular because they were cheaper than cars and made individual transportation accessible to more people.
Brands such as Harley-Davidson and Indian helped shape the early industry.

Specialization and modern technology 1990–present
From the 1990s, motorcycles became more specialized, with clear categories such as sport, touring, and adventure.
Electronic fuel injection and ABS became standard, and today advanced driver assistance systems are commonplace. At the same time, electric motorcycles are gradually gaining ground.
The Japanese Revolution 1960–1980
Japanese manufacturers such as Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki changed the market with reliable and affordable motorcycles.
Four-cylinder engines and disc brakes became widespread, and the superbike segment emerged as motorsport grew.

Technical development and the post-war period 1930–1950
During this period, motorcycles became more advanced with better gearboxes, suspension and brakes.
During World War II, they were used by the military for transport and communication.
After the war, interest grew both as a practical means of transport and as a recreational vehicle.
